A weekend in Greenwich, by someone who lives there

People who view homes with me in Greenwich often ask what living here is actually like. The honest answer is that weekends are the best part, so here is how I would spend one.
Saturday morning: the market and the park
Start at Greenwich Market before it gets busy, around ten. The food stalls are at their best then, and you can walk through the arts and crafts end without being carried along by the crowd.
From the market it is a short walk up to Greenwich Park. Take the steep path up to the Royal Observatory: the view from the top, back across the Queen's House to the river and Canary Wharf, is the best in this part of London and never gets old.
Saturday afternoon: the river
Walk down to the river and along the Thames Path past the Old Royal Naval College to Ballast Quay. The Cutty Sark pub has tables by the water. If the weather is good, keep going towards the Peninsula, where newer buildings line the river and the walk opens up.
Sunday: Blackheath and the village
Sunday morning is for Blackheath. Cross the top of the park and the heath opens out, with kites at weekends and a small farmers' market by the station. Blackheath Village has good bakeries, a bookshop and a cinema, and is a gentler pace than central Greenwich.
Why buyers choose it
Greenwich gives you a royal park, a river and a World Heritage town centre, and it still costs less per square foot than anywhere else we cover. The DLR reaches Canary Wharf in eight minutes, and the river bus makes the commute something to look forward to. For first-time buyers and downsizers alike, it is hard to beat.
